Always Acclimatise Your New Fish!
You have been patient in researching the needs of your fish before purchasing and have waited days / weeks before purchasing your favorite fish.
Naturally, you would like to protect this new addition by following a proper acclimatisation process.
Purpose of acclimatisation is simple, the water parameters which the fishes have been packed are different from that of your aquarium. Pouring your fishes directly into your aquarium without acclimatisation might give them a pH / temperature shock, which could affect their health.
We recommend the one of the two following procedures.
Drip method
1. Dim the lights.
2. Float the sealed bag in the aquarium for 15 minutes to adjust slowly to the temperature of the aquarium.
3. Carefully pour out the contents into a bucket, making sure not to expose the contents to air.
4. Using a airline hose, set up a siphon drip from the aquarium to the bucket.
5. Once the volume of water in the bucket doubles, discard half of the water and continue with the siphoning.
6. Continue doing this at least 2 times to ensure that water parameters in the bucket are similar with the aquarium.
7. You are now ready to transfer to livestock from the bucket into the aquarium. Use the bag the fish came in to transfer it to the aquarium.
8. Enjoy the fish!
Floating method
1. Start with steps 1 and 2 of the drip method.
2. Open up the bag and pour 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water into the bag.
3. Repeat every 3-5 minutes until the bag is full.
4. Discard half of the water and repeat until the bag is full.
5. Release the specimen into your aquarium and discard the water.
6. Do not pour shipping water into the aquarium.
DO NOT RUSH THE PROCEDURE!
Although we only ship the healthiest fishes, your new fish has gone through shipping to get to you. The additional hour spent on properly acclimatising your new arrival will greatly help its recovery.
